Thinking about contact lenses?
Contact lenses are a popular way to improve your vision, as they give you freedom for different lifestyle needs, for work and play, and are an alternative to wearing your glasses. If you are interested in wearing contact lenses then you need to be fitted by an optometrist.
The first step is to make an appointment for an eye examination to assess the health of your eyes and determine your spectacle prescription. This will be bulk billed to Medicare. At this point the optometrist will advise you on your options for contact lenses. The following fees then apply:
First time wearers
Initial fee $81.00
This includes:
- the measurement and fitting for contact lenses
- delivery of contact lenses
- teaching how to insert, remove and look after the contact lenses
- trial contact lenses and starter pack of contact lens cleaning solution
- instruction DVD
- the first aftercare visit (ie health assessment) of your eyes now that you
are wearing contact lenses
A further 1-3 aftercare visits will be required depending on how often the contact lenses are worn. These visits are charged at $30 per visit.
Previous Wearers
All visits are charged at $30. The number of aftercare visits will vary according
to what is needed.

Once the aftercare visits have been completed we then review contact lens wearers for a general health check every 12 months. This consultation is bulk billed to Medicare |
